Nomad IPTV on Samsung & LG Smart TV

Nomad IPTV Support TeamUpdated 8 min read

If you own a Samsung or LG smart TV, you may not need any extra hardware to watch Nomad IPTV. Both brands have IPTV players in their own app stores, and with ten minutes of setup the TV itself becomes your IPTV box. This guide explains how it works on each brand, which apps to use, how MAC-address activation works, and when a Firestick is still the better choice.

How IPTV works on a smart TV

A smart TV runs its own operating system: Tizen on Samsung and webOS on LG. You can't install Android apps like TiviMate on them, but both stores offer dedicated IPTV players. Most of these players work slightly differently from phone apps:

  • When you open the app, it shows your TV's MAC address and a device key.
  • You go to the player's website on your phone or laptop, enter that MAC and key, and add your Nomad IPTV playlist there.
  • The TV app then downloads the playlist the next time it starts.

Some players also let you type an Xtream Codes login directly on the TV. Either way, you need your Nomad IPTV details — the server URL, username, password and M3U link from your activation email. No login yet? See the Nomad IPTV plans.

IBO Player is our usual recommendation because it's available on both brands, handles large playlists well and supports the TV guide. Many smart-TV players offer a free period and then ask for a small one-time activation fee. That fee goes to the app developer, not to Nomad IPTV, and it's worth checking the current terms on the developer's website before you choose.

Setup on a Samsung smart TV

  1. Press Home on the remote and open Apps.
  2. Use the search icon and look for IBO Player (or another player from the table).
  3. Install it, then open it. Note the MAC address and device key shown on screen — a photo with your phone is easiest.
  4. On your phone or laptop, open the player's official website and go to its playlist upload or "manage playlists" page.
  5. Enter the MAC address and device key, then add your Nomad IPTV playlist: paste the M3U link, or choose Xtream and enter the server URL, username and password.
  6. Back on the TV, close the app completely (or switch the TV off and on) and open it again. Your channels, the guide and the movie and series sections load.

Setup on an LG smart TV

  1. Press Home and open the LG Content Store (on newer webOS versions simply called Apps).
  2. Search for IBO Player and install it.
  3. Open it and note the MAC address and device key.
  4. Add your playlist on the player's website exactly as described for Samsung.
  5. Restart the app. The Nomad IPTV playlist appears.

Making a smart TV app pleasant to use

Smart-TV remotes are slower to navigate than a Fire TV remote, so it pays to tidy up:

  • Hide categories you never watch. International sections can contain thousands of channels. Most players let you hide groups from their settings or website.
  • Create a favourites list. Your 20 most-watched channels on one screen makes channel surfing quick.
  • Check the guide. If the EPG doesn't appear immediately, give it a few minutes after the first load. Our EPG guide explains how to refresh it.

Picture quality tips

Use Ethernet if you can. Many TVs have modest Wi-Fi chips, and the TV often sits far from the router. A network cable is the single best upgrade for stability.

Switch off motion smoothing for sport. Samsung calls it Auto Motion Plus; LG calls it TruMotion. Turning it off or to a low setting avoids the "soap opera" look and occasional artefacts in fast football and hockey.

Choose the right stream version. Popular channels come in FHD and HD versions, and some in 4K. If a 4K version stutters, step down to FHD — it often looks almost identical on a 55-inch screen.

When a stick is the better choice

Smart-TV apps are convenient, but they aren't always the best experience. Consider a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box if:

  • your TV is older (roughly pre-2018) and the app runs slowly or crashes on large playlists,
  • you want TiviMate, which isn't available on Tizen or webOS,
  • you want to record programmes, which few smart-TV apps support,
  • you have several TVs and want the same interface on all of them.

A Fire TV Stick costs little, and our Firestick guide gets you set up in about ten minutes.

Other TV brands

  • Sony, Philips, TCL and many Hisense models run Android TV or Google TV. Follow the Android TV guide — you can install TiviMate directly from Google Play.
  • Hisense VIDAA TVs have their own store; several MAC-based IPTV players are available there and work in the same way as on Samsung and LG.
  • Roku doesn't support most IPTV players. A Fire TV Stick or Android TV box is the simplest route.

Troubleshooting

"Playlist not found" or an empty channel list. The MAC address or device key was probably typed incorrectly on the website. Re-check both, save again and restart the app.

The app asks for activation. The free period has ended and the app developer requires their activation fee. This is between you and the app developer; you can also switch to a different player.

Channels load but the guide is empty. Wait a few minutes after the first load, then use the app's refresh or reload option. If it stays empty, message our support team.

Buffering on some channels. See our 10 proven tips to fix IPTV buffering — most fixes take a minute.

Summary

Samsung and LG owners can watch Nomad IPTV with nothing more than an app and ten minutes of setup. Install IBO Player (or another player from the table), add your playlist via the player's website using the TV's MAC address, and restart the app. If your TV is old or you want TiviMate, a Fire TV Stick is the upgrade.
