How to Use an EPG / TV Guide with Nomad IPTV

Nomad IPTV Support TeamUpdated 8 min read

A list of 30,000 channels is overwhelming. A TV guide that shows what's on now, what's next and what's on tonight turns that list into television. The EPG — electronic programme guide — is included with Nomad IPTV for most live channels. This guide explains how it works, how to set it up in the most popular players, how to fix a guide that's empty or wrong, and how to use catch-up straight from the guide.

What is an EPG?

An EPG is the schedule data behind your TV guide: programme titles, start and end times and descriptions for each channel. Your player downloads this data and displays it as:

  • a now/next bar when you change channel,
  • a channel list with current programmes, and
  • a full grid guide — channels down the side, time across the top — like a cable box.

With Nomad IPTV, the guide data is delivered together with your login. In players that use Xtream Codes login, it usually loads automatically.

Setting up the guide in TiviMate

TiviMate (Firestick and Android TV) has the best grid guide of any player.

  1. Add your Nomad IPTV playlist with Xtream Codes (see the Firestick guide).
  2. TiviMate detects the guide source automatically. Wait a minute or two after the first login.
  3. Press the OK button while watching, or open TV guide from the menu, to see the grid.
  4. If some channels show "No information", go to Settings → EPG and choose Update EPG.

Useful TiviMate settings:

  • Settings → EPG → Update on app start keeps the guide fresh.
  • Settings → EPG → Days to keep controls how far back the guide (and catch-up listings) go.
  • Settings → Appearance lets you change the number of rows and the time scale of the grid.

Setting up the guide in IPTV Smarters

  1. Log in with Xtream Codes API.
  2. On the home screen, open Install EPG (or EPG in settings) and let it download.
  3. Open Live TV and choose a category. The current programme shows under each channel; open the TV Guide view for the grid.

If you logged in with an M3U link instead, add the EPG URL manually in settings — our support team can send it to you.

Setting up the guide in IPTVX (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV)

  1. Add your playlist with Xtream Codes.
  2. IPTVX imports the guide automatically.
  3. Swipe or press down on the Apple TV remote to open the guide while watching.
  4. Turn on iCloud sync to keep the same playlists and favourites on all your Apple devices.

Smart TV apps and MAG boxes

  • IBO Player and similar smart-TV apps load the guide from the playlist settings you entered on their website. Restart the app after adding your playlist; give it a few minutes on the first load.
  • MAG boxes show the guide inside the portal. Press the EPG or Guide button on the remote.

Fixing common guide problems

The guide is empty

  • Wait a few minutes after the first login — the guide is a large download.
  • Use Update EPG / Reload EPG in your player's settings.
  • If you logged in with M3U, add the EPG URL manually (ask support for it).

Times are wrong by one or more hours

This is almost always a time zone issue on the device. Check that the device's time zone is correct and set to update automatically. Some players also have an EPG time shift setting — leave it at 0 unless support advises otherwise.

Some channels have no guide data

Not every channel has schedule data, especially some international and event channels. Try another version of the same channel (FHD vs HD) — one often has guide data when the other doesn't. If a popular channel is missing information, let us know so we can check.

The guide is very slow on my device

Large guides can be heavy for older devices. Hide channel groups you don't watch (most players then skip their guide data), and reduce the number of days stored.

Using catch-up from the guide

Selected channels support catch-up: you can scroll back in the guide and play programmes from the past few days. Channels with catch-up are usually marked with an icon (a clock or rewind symbol).

  • TiviMate: scroll left in the grid to a past programme and press OK.
  • IPTV Smarters: open Catch Up from the home screen and choose a channel and date.
  • IPTVX: select a past programme in the guide.

Catch-up availability varies by channel, and the player must support it.

Reminders and recordings

  • Reminders: TiviMate and IPTVX let you set a reminder for an upcoming programme. When it starts, the app notifies you or switches channel.
  • Recording: depends on the app. TiviMate Premium can record to the device's storage or a USB drive on Android devices; many other apps don't record. Recording is a feature of the player, not of your subscription.

Making the guide work for you

The guide becomes really useful once it only shows what you care about:

  1. Hide groups you never watch.
  2. Create a favourites group with your daily channels.
  3. Set favourites as the default view so the guide opens on them.
  4. Use the search for programme titles, not just channel names — handy for finding a specific game or film.

Summary

The EPG turns a channel list into a TV experience. With Xtream Codes login it loads automatically in TiviMate, IPTV Smarters and IPTVX; if something's missing, a manual refresh or a time-zone check fixes most problems. Don't have a login yet?
