How Many Devices Can I Use With One IPTV Subscription?
"How many devices can I use?" is one of the first questions people ask before subscribing. The answer has two parts: how many devices you can install Nomad IPTV on, and how many can watch at the same time. They're very different numbers, and understanding the difference saves you money.
Installing vs watching: the key difference
Installing means putting a player app on a device and logging in with your Nomad IPTV details. There's no limit. Install it on the living-room Firestick, the bedroom TV, your phone, your tablet and your laptop — all with the same login.
Watching at the same time is limited by your plan's connections. One connection = one screen streaming at a given moment. With a 1-connection plan, one device can play at a time; with 3 connections, three devices can play different channels simultaneously.
So the real question isn't "how many devices do I own?" but "how many people regularly watch at the same moment?"
What happens if you go over your connections?
If your plan has two connections and a third device starts a stream while two others are already playing, the third device shows an error and won't play (or, depending on the app, another stream stops). Nothing is charged extra and your account isn't penalised for this. Just stop one stream, or upgrade your connections.
Deliberately sharing a login with other households to exceed your connections is a different matter — it's against our terms and can lead to suspension.
Choosing the right number of connections
| Household | Typical viewing | Connections |
|---|---|---|
| Single person | One screen at a time, at home or on the go | 1 |
| Couple | Sometimes watching different things in different rooms | 2 |
| Family of 3–4 | Living room + kids' room + occasional phone | 3 |
| Large family / shared house | Several TVs often on at the same time | 4–5 |
A useful test: think of your busiest evening — a Sunday with a game on, someone watching a series upstairs, a teenager on a tablet. Count the screens playing at that moment. That's your number.
Prices by connections
Each extra connection costs much less than a second full subscription. One-year plans, for example:
| Connections | 12-month price | Per screen, per month |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $69 | $5.75 |
| 2 | $109 | $4.54 |
| 3 | $139 | $3.86 |
| 4 | $169 | $3.52 |
| 5 | $199 | $3.32 |
The same pattern applies to the 1, 3 and 6-month plans. See every combination on the Nomad IPTV plans page.
Common scenarios
"I watch at home and on my phone at work."
If nobody at home watches while you're out, 1 connection is enough — you're only ever streaming on one device.
"My partner watches the news while I watch football."
That's two streams at once: 2 connections.
"We have three TVs but rarely use more than two."
Choose 2 connections. If it turns out you need a third more often than expected, you can upgrade.
"I travel, but my family stays home."
Your viewing abroad and theirs at home are simultaneous: at least 2 connections. Our worldwide viewing guide has more tips for travellers.
"We have a MAG box and Firesticks."
Mixing device types is fine. Tell us when you order (MAG boxes need their MAC address), and count simultaneous streams as usual.
Upgrading later
Started with one connection and need more? Message our support team with your order ID (it starts with NMD-) and tell us how many connections you'd like. We calculate the difference for the remaining time on your plan and send you a payment link. Your login, favourites and app settings stay the same.
Does each device need its own app?
Yes — each device needs a player app installed, but they all use the same login. You can even use different apps on different devices: TiviMate on the Firestick, IPTV Smarters on the phone, IPTVX on the iPad. Our player app comparison helps you choose, and each device has an installation guide.
Bandwidth: can your internet handle it?
More connections means more data flowing at once. Plan on about 15 Mbps per HD stream and 25 Mbps per 4K stream:
- 2 HD screens: ~30 Mbps
- 3 HD screens: ~45 Mbps
- 2 screens in 4K + 1 in HD: ~65 Mbps
Most fibre and cable plans in the US, Canada and the UK handle this comfortably. If you notice buffering only when several screens are on, see how to fix IPTV buffering.
Quick answers
Can I use Nomad IPTV on unlimited devices? You can install it on unlimited devices. Simultaneous streams are limited to your plan's connections (1–5).
Do phones count? Yes, while they're streaming.
Does a paused stream count? Often yes — if the app keeps the stream open. Stop playback rather than pausing if you need the connection elsewhere.
Can I change connections mid-plan? Yes, via support.
Summary
Install Nomad IPTV everywhere; pay only for the screens that watch at the same time. Count your busiest evening, pick 1–5 connections accordingly, and upgrade if your household's habits change. Ready? Choose your Nomad IPTV subscription.
